Board of Directors

Our board of directors has helped establish Legacy Capital Management as a premier wealth management firm.

Joe Milam is responsible for the formation and development of the firm. Beginning with E.F. Hutton in 1985, he began working with money managers, eventually joining BIL Trainer Wortham, a division of the Bank in Liechtenstein, in 1990 as an assistant portfolio manager. In 1992, he assumed the responsibility of senior portfolio manager, and in 1993, acquired and renamed the company Legacy Capital Management, Inc. His expertise with CSFB HOLT's CFROI framework has led to profiles in various domestic and international publications, including Barron's, CFO, MSN MoneyCentral, Crain's Chicago Business, and Investor Relations (sister publication to The Economist). In addition, he has spoken around the country on the implementation of the CFROI framework. Joe holds a B.S. in Finance from California State University, Chico.

Jim McCarthy has been working with high net worth clients since 1996. In addition to advising clients on a broad array of wealth management matters, he co-heads the firm's investment committee, is responsible for the daily execution of the portfolio management process, and is the firm's compliance officer. He began his career in the financial services industry in 1987, working in real estate syndication, tax, financial analysis and product development. He joined Legacy Capital Management in 1996 and has had primary responsibility for portfolio management and the research process since 2000. Jim has contributed to several regional and national publications — including Barron's, Los Angeles Times, Crain's Chicago Business, Sacramento Bee, and Sacramento Business Journal — on company stock valuation, investor psychology, and various stock market issues. He also has guest lectured on these topics for various groups, including the American Cancer Society and the College of Business Administration at California State University, Sacramento. He also is on the board of directors for a local start-up growth company. He graduated with a B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado in 1986 and is a member of the CFA Society of Sacramento.

Catherine F. Steigerwald graduated from private schools in England. After serving as Assistant to the Chairman of a publicly listed company in London, Catherine entered the investment management profession in 1976 when she joined Rea, Nelson & Staight of Menlo Park. She continued her career with BIL Trainer Wortham and G.T. Investment Counsel before joining Legacy at its inception in 1993. She is a former Vice President of Legacy, and, although semi-retired, still assists in business development and provides corporate trustee services.

F. Tracy Henderson is a graduate of Harvard University. He joined U.S. Trust in 1968, managing institutional and personal portfolios in addition to the bank's $200 million trust equity fund. In 1984, he joined BIL Management and, later, BIL Trainer Wortham and G.T. Investment Counsel. He currently manages personal portfolios from his home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and serves as a consultant to Legacy.
